Disney’s arch-enemy, Universal Pictures, launches a big dud in R.I.P.D.

Disney had to suffer a few weeks ago while their Lone Ranger movie flopped and their arch-enemies at Universal Studios raked in the cash from their summer blockbuster, Despicable Me 2.

Now the shoe is on the other foot as Universal Pictures has launched perhaps the biggest dud of the summer – R.I.P.D, the $130-million action-comedy grossed just $12.8 million, only good enough for a seventh-place finish, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Lone Ranger has grossed $81 million so far, according to IMDB.  No matter what it appears that R.I.P.D. will fare even worse.

Maybe Hollywood should just stop blowing millions on action movies with guys in cowboy hats?

I should note that the bad blood between Disney and Universal is due to the fact that they compete at every level.  They both own amusement parks.  They both make movies.  And they both own TV networks.  Having worked at Disney I can assure you that their executives have total enmity for Universal.  And now they can crow about Universal having an even bigger box office dud than the lame Lone Ranger.
