The Carthay Circle Restaurant raises prices despite health violations and bad Yelp reviews

Carthay Circle Restaurant (2)

The lounge in Disney California Adventure’s Carthay Circle Restaurant has made some changes in its menu. The biggest change is the addition of two item items: Queso Fundido for $14 and a flatbread pizza for $18. The second biggest change is an upward trend in prices. Several items, such as the $11 Santa Monica deviled eggs, cost $1-$3 more than they did a year ago. Now everything costs $11 or more, with butchers plate of meats, dried fruits and nuts topping the list at $19, according to the Press Enterprise.

Wow.  Those prices are simply awful but this story gets even worse.  The Carthay Circle Restaurant was inspected by the Orange County Health Agency on April 17, 2013.  Here is what they reported: Continue reading

The critics like Carthay Circle, but the Yelpers and the Health Inspectors don’t

Carthay Circle Restaurant

LA Daily News reporter Linda Fields Gold gushed over Disney’s gourmet Carthay Circle restaurant, at California Adventures, in a recent article that was published on April 20, 2013.  But I don’t think she looked them up on the Orange County Health Agency’s Restaurant Inspection website.

Fields Gold reported that “The creative talent behind Carthay Circle is Andrew Sutton, executive chef of the Napa Rose. While the Napa Rose is true to Northern California Wine Country taste, Sutton said he wanted Carthay Circle to pick up the “warm flavors and brighter heat” of Southern California. He has worked the past few years with chef de cuisine Gloria Tae, who describes her style as “California Rustic with Asian accents.” They concentrate on using locally grown, locally raised ingredients and sustainable seafood.”

She then went on to describe their dishes, which to be honest sounded great.  But it looks like she didn’t know about the Orange County Health Care Agency’s inspection of Carthay Circle, on April 17, 2013.  Here is what they found: Continue reading

Are new Tron and Monsters, Inc. attractions coming to Disneyland and California Adventures?

Could the increase in the daily attendance rates at Disneyland and California Adventure lead to new attractions?  According to MiceChat, there are plans to build a new Monstropolis area at California Adventure, based on the popular Monsters, Inc. movie:

But instead of working on Disneyland next, TDA is now seriously considering an additional E Ticket thrill ride and new themed placemaking for DCA in the next few years. Taking a concept originally cooked up a few years ago for Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida, there’s now a very serious proposal to tear out the MuppetVision and Stage 17 buildings in the back of DCA’s HollywoodLand area and build a Monsters Inc. mini-land there.
